Channel 5 is the smallest of the main terrestrial channels, and due to this, have to work that bit harder to get noticed. They do not look for programmes that are 'tricksy' or 'derivative', or that are 'over formatted'. What they do want are programmes that are 'engaging', 'intelligent', 'well made' and have a 'relevance to the viewer'. They also look for a good, grabby title.

They particularly like factual shows-Specialist Factual, Documentaries and Factual Entertainment, which can be 'poppy, tabloid type shows' or 'serious' pieces, however, they are not really in the market for Comedy or Drama at the moment.

Channel 5 continues to be a supportive supportive broadcaster of British inspired animation. They broadcast 24 hours of children's programme every week under Channel 5;s Milkshake! brand, with a target audience from 2-7 years old. They commission, co-produce and acquire pre-school programming with a wide range of different deals and arrangements.

Due to the fact that ITV have a varied, high quality programming schedule, and from my research show a range of popular dramas, I have chosen this channel to show my programme. I did not choose Channel 5 as it specifically says that they prefer to show documentary style programmes, and that dramas are not really in the market for them at the moment, so I think that it would be too big a risk to aim for this channel as theres a slim chance it will be popular with the audience.
