findings on factual and fictional programming
Reading through the ITV listings, I found that there were a lot more factual and entertainment programmes shown over fictional programmes. There were many game shows and news updates throughout the day, however, dramas seemed to be shown at hours in the morning when not many people would be watching, although at around 7-9pm each night there are soap operas or crime dramas shown which is a very popular time for audiences to tune in.
Whereas with Channel 5, I found that most of the scheduling in the morning was taken up with fictional children's programmes, and soap operas towards the evening. It too included news update showings, however I think that the most shown were documentary type programmes, which were shown throughout the day.
I think that the channel I will pitch my programme for is ITV, as I'd like to focus on fictional programming rather than factual, and ITV seemed to show not just soaps towards the evening, but also a range of dramas as well. I feel that filming a crime drama will be perfect for ITV as dramas, especially crime, seem to be a very popular programme for the specific target audience of 18-35 year old 'millennials'.
